II The Basics
i) Commonly
used MUSH commands
ii) Key
words used often in In Nomine
Commonly used MUSH commands
The following is a list of commands
that are used on a fairly regular basis:
- connect name password This command
logs you into the game once you have reached the welcome screen.
It can be shortened to con alias password
if you so desire. New players should use connect
guest guest to login as a visitor.
- create name password Creates a
new character object with the provided 'name'. If you would like
a first and last name, the command is modified to create
"first last" password (the connecting command
then changes to connect "first last"
password unless the alias version is used).
- LOGOUT or QUIT
These commands disconnect you from the game. The first simply
logs you out of that one player object and returns you to the
welcome screen. The second command logs you out of the game and
disconnects from the server.
- @mail The in-game mail system.
@mail returns a list of your "inbox"
contents, with its status (new, read, forwarded, cleared, etc),
the author, and the date and time it was sent. Other subcommands
include @mail/read #, @mail/send
name=subject/body, @mail/fwd #=receipient,
@mail/clear #, and @mail/purge.
Any cleared mail is automatically purged upon disconnect.
- page name <name>=<text or pose>
A person-to-person means of communication on the MUSH. If you
want to page multiple people at once with the same thing, simply
indicate more names separated by spaces (not commas). For a character
with two names either utilize quotation marks around their full
name or use their alias instead.
- +bbread board#</post#> Allows
you to read the bulletin board system. +bblist
provides a list of the boards available, their name, and their
timeout period. +bbscan returns a
list of all board posts (of the boards you are on) that are unread.
+bbnew returns unread posts one at
a time in chronological order. +bbjoin board#
and +bbleave board# are fairly self-explanatory.
The all-in-one command of posting is the following: +bbpost
board#/title=body. Full details can be read using +bbhelp.
- "<text> or say
<text> Automatically sends the speech to the MUSH
in the room that you are located. For example, "Have
you used the Compass of Attunement? would show up as Uriel
says, "Have you used the Compass of Attunement?"
- : or ;
An action that is sent to the MUSH to display in the room that
you are located. For example, :waves.
would show up as Uriel waves. Note
that the space between the name and action is automatically entered.
Alternately, if you want to easily indicate possession, use a
semi-colon. ;'s hair swings as he strides
towards the demon. would show up as Uriel's
hair swings as he strides towards the demon. Note the lack
of space between the name and subsequent text. The same commands
can be used to do actions on the channels.
- @emit Ah, the all-time favourite.
This sends the entire pose to the MUSH without prefixing
it with your name. It's useful for emitting NPCs or yourself,
but don't forget to insert your name somewhere in the pose if
it was you!
- +<chan> text Talks on the
indicated channel. You can use as little as one letter to indicate
which channel you want to speak on but be aware that if there
are multiple channels with the same first letter, the MUSH will
send it to the first alphabetical channel. +p
<stuff> would work to send to <Public>, but
+pub <stuff> would tell the
MUSH exactly where you want it (especially if there's a channel
like <Pointy Hats> or something). A list of channels can
be accessed by using @chan[nel]/list. Please note that all channels are OOC.
- @rp Changes your status from Out-of-Character
(OOC) to In-Character (IC), or vice versa. When switching
from one to the other your character will be moved from the OOC
lounge to the IC grid (or vice versa, again). Being IC means that
any actions you pose are true to the character that you've created.
Remember, IC actions have IC consequences (ICA=ICC).
- ooc <text> or +ooc
<text> Displays the text that you entered on the
local (in that room) OOC channel. For example, ooc
Where's your location? would show up as [OOC]
Uriel says, "Where's your location?". It's meant
for small questions/responses or corrections to a pose. If the
conversation becomes larger, please either move it to page
or onto a channel to avoid disrupting
the scene overly.
- +sheet Gives you the list of Forces,
skills, Songs, and other related information that your character
possesses.
- +sinfo The backbone of our skills
system. Skill groups can be seen by using +skills
on its own, or +skills <group>
for a specific set. +sinfo <skill>
returns the basic information file for that particular skill.
- +roll Tosses a trio
of dice, visible to all in the room. The red die is the
check digit. If a 111 is rolled, there is Divine Intervention.
If a 6666 is rolled, there is an Infernal Intervention.
While it sounds good, rolling a Divine Intervention as
a Calabite is not a good thing...

Key words used often in
In Nomine
The following is a list of terms
that are regularly encountered in the In Nomine
universe:
- Archangel An Angelic Superior who leads servitors under their leadership to promote his or her Word. One of the leaders of the Angels.
- Artifacts An object, such as a
weapon or book, to which a person has been attuned.
- Attunements An ability that is granted by your inherent nature given by your Choir or Band or by a Superior.
- Celestial An Angel or Demon, or any of the spirits from Heaven and Hell that are not human souls.
- Check Digit The third die in the roll, which on the game is colored red, to determine how horribly or greatly you succeeded or failed.
- Demon Prince A Demonic Superior who leads servitors to promote his or her Word. One of the leaders of the Demons.
- Discord A Physical or Mental 'fracture' to a soul, such as being overly paranoid or having a tail. Caused as a result of too much dissonance.
- Dissonance The damage done to a Celestial by going against their Superior's Word or through going against their innate nature.
- Distinctions "Rank" within a Superior's servitors that gives them greater responsibility
in their Superior's eyes.
- Divine Pertaining to God, be it their presence or an alias.
- Essence The energy given off by
the universe, the Symphony, that allows for direct manipulation
of Songs or miraculous changes to the Symphony.
- Ethereal Describes the Marches -- which is the Ethereal realm -- or any of the spirits, pagan gods, or creatures of myths.
- Falling The change of an Angel to a Demon, as a result of too much Discord or from their extreme corruption.
- Forces The three types of 'energy'
that make up a soul (whether Celestial, Ethereal, or Corporeal).
They are Celestial Forces, Ethereal Forces, and Corporeal Forces.
- Heart A crystalline object that draws an Angel or Demon back to Heaven and Hell respectively. Usually held within their Superior's Cathedral or Principality.
- Infernal Pertaining to Lucifer, be it his presence or an alias.
- Intervention A result of a roll
returning an unmodified 1 1 1 or 6 6 6. Interventions are
quite obvious in supernatural power, whether through a Superior
appearing or some other means. 1 1 1 is of course good for an
Angel but bad for a Demon. 6 6 6 is good for a Demon but bad for
an Angel.
- Invocation The act of calling a Superior.
- Mundane Unenlightened humans who are not aware of the War.
- Redemption The change of a Demon to an Angel, their salvation.

- Resonance The unique abilities given to a Celestial by their very Choir or Band natures.
- Rites Granted by a Superior or any Word-Bound Celestial, it is a unique way for you to gain Essence.
- Roles A position (job) or personality
that a Celestial with a Vessel can hold in human society. The
higher the level, the more ingrained they are in that aspect of
human society.
- Servitor A celestial who serves a Superior.
- Songs An ability that allows for the manipulation of the Symphony that requires Essence to initiate and use.
- Superior Any of the leaders of the Angels or Demons who command Servitors.
- Symphony The universe. Sentient insofar as being able to know when something is not going to plan -- disturbances such as Songs (minor) or killing a human (Mercurian, major).
- Talisman An artifact that enhances a skill.
- Tether Any place in the Corporeal World that is tied to a Celestial realm.
- Vessel A corporeal body, human, animal, or plant, that a soul or Celestial can use to interact in the Corporeal realm.
- Word Generally an obvious or important part of the Symphony, that a Celestial can be 'tied' to and support.
