When:  1 November 2004
Who:  Megumi, Oannes (GM)
What:  Megumi summons her boss to give him some information, and to receive some new orders in return.

West - Austin

The part of Austin west of the Colorado River is somewhat more open then the eastern Downtown, especially through the West Lake Hills, and tends toward clustered housing developments to the northwest and southwest. Many smaller townships have slowly become part of the main sprawl of Austin, providing suburban areas, and the area grows rapidly - especially in the nearby 360 area, but really all over.

The streets of West Austin are a bit sparse this time of day, but there's still plenty of people going here and there, attending to their lives in the best way they can.

Just another normal day.

Megumi bites her lip as she makes her way through the streets of West Austin. She picked this area, mostly, because it's not very crowded. Of course, she knows Malphas is a busy Demon, but that doesn't keep her from wishing he was a little easier to get ahold of. With her current vessel, she's doomed to spend plenty of essence for the job. She scans the streets, looking for potential people to 'help'. She even puts on her 'helpful' face, smiling cheerfully at anyone and anything. She looks for an opportunity, or anybody who looks rather lost. She'd rather save as much essence as she can.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of lost people at the- Oh, wait, here comes a car. The driver looks a bit irritated as the passenger beside him flips through a map. Finally, the car screeches up next to Megumi (Convienent!), the passenger sticking her head out to ask, "Pardon me! Do you know how to get to the Treaty Oak?" The Driver continues looking at her sullenly.

Megumi brightens as someone asks her directions. As if she was waiting just for someone who needs a little help today! She perks up and says, "Oh, yes, certainly," Megumi says cheerfully. "You can't miss it. Let's see...", she turns a bit and looks towards the...South-Southwest. "Just go down that away and take a left at the light, and I'm sure you'll hit it, take a left at the third light."

The passenger smiles, nodding happily to Megumi. "All right! Thanks!" The driver looks to the girl, and scowls. "But that's the opposite direction on the map!" The girl replies, humphing. "Well, then the map is wrong, isn't it? Wouldn't a native know more than this stupid, useless, map?" She tosses the map into the back seat of the car while the driver shakes his head, muttering. "Like hell. Whatever, let's go." The car squeals as it pulls off, cutting through traffic to follow the very wrong directions given. Looks like the man has a case of road rage, too.

Megumi says, "You're welcome!", she waves after the drive and passenger. Part of her wants to see what sorts of chaos will be unleashed once they realize it's the wrong way, particularly between passenger and driver, but she just has to hope to hear about it on the news if it's something exciting, and not if it's something dull. "Be careful!", she adds, since she's a very helpful demon.

And then she takes up a whole bunch of essence as she concentrates, she takes her time, throwing her Essence out. It's a lot, but she hasn't had any need for it -yet-. She just leaves enough so she can run away from any trouble with ease.

She just might find out sometime. The Media is good like that. Regardless, the dark call echoes out, reverberating against the backdrop of the Symphony.

A tense, competing, fighting theme seems to slip into the fore, growing as a well-dressed man walks by (where DID he come from?), his aged face creased with care as he stops in surprise, looking over to Megumi with a smile of recognition. "Ahh, Megumi! It's good to see you... I got your message, and I was just able to take some time out to see what's happening. With such an urgent message, surely the news is important?" The charismatic man retains his the kindly gaze, but arches an eyebrow slightly in a questioning manner.

Megumi understands the hidden message in that. But at least her superior wasn't...well, it loathed to think of most of the other possibilities. She jolts out of surprise. She turns quickly and bows deeply to The Prince of Factions. This is her first invocation, so better make a good impression.

"Yes sir," she says, keeping her eyes forward, even as she keeps her bow for a few more moments before she straightens, "I have gathered some information. Baal's tether, the Tombstone Arms, was taken from him. I visited it yesterday while it was 'wild' and someone invoked Michael over. He took the Tether just yesterday and now controls it in Baal's place."

She pauses for a moment before continuing, "That is the bulk of it. I thought you would like to know as soon as possible, which is why I spent so much essence on it."

Malphas, for Malphas it is, nods, the other eyebrow joining the first one. "Michael, you say? Well yes, this /is/ a surprise. And the truce is over, then? I had heard Baal storming about saying something about explosives..." He winks slyly at Megumi. "Who can't hear him when he gets going, after all? But yes, this is important news, and I'm glad you brought it to me. Anything else?"

Megumi gets a little nervous at that! Maybe Malphas already knew..? Or maybe he just doesn't want her to think she didn't know. Either way, she isn't -quite- done. She says, "Thank you, sir," bowing her head, a little less this time because she doesn't want to attract too much attention, this is more akin to a low nod. "The ones who did the attack said they're planning on more. That that was just the beginning. The one who headed the attack was the owner of Fado's, had a Malakite of Fire helping him out, and plenty of other angels from how many go to his Pub all the time. He asked the Malakite to hunt down Baal's Soldiers that torched some apartments around the Tether, don't know if he caught up to them yet."

Malphas nods gravely. "Ah, so the truce /is/ broken..." He smiles widely. "Excellent. Now as for you, I'd like you to go ahead and make sure this 'cooperative war effort' of theirs runs into a few... problems. After all, those angels are so mistrustful of each other."

Megumi -doesn't- mention the problems between Alexander and Elizabeth. Mostly because she doesn't know who Elizabeth works for or anything, and it is not timely to claim credit for it even if she is only partially responsible. Besides, maybe she can make it worse! She nods, however, and says, "Yes sir, thank you sir. T'would give me great pleasure."

Malphas nods. "All right, then. I'll let you get back to you work. Good luck, Megumi!"

The man quickly bends over as two women pass, and taps one of them on the shoulder. "Pardon me, ma'am, but you dropped this." He drops a ring into her outstretched palm, and the woman looks shocked, while the other woman looking on raises her hand in horror, and then fury. "You little !#*$*! How dare he give you that ring! I gave it to him!" The first woman looks back in surprise, "But I, I didn't..." The second raging woman doesn't bother to let the first finish, unleashing a painful-looking right hook. The first woman falls, even as a crowd begins gathering around the two fighting women. The second woman follows up by leaping on top of the first, unleashing blow after blow at the second woman, interspersing her attacks with furious obscentities.

And Malphas smiles slightly to himself as he begins walking away.

Megumi waves after Malphas, "Thank you, sir!", then the fight with the two women...? Megumi is impressed. She also shifts in a pocket, withdraws a disposable camera, and snaps a few pictures. To cherish, and to remind herself what she's fighting for.

Well, actually, what everybody is fighting for, now that she thinks about it. She withdraws a cigarette, lights it, and takes a drag. It's been a good day.
