The Drag - Austin The Drag is one of the busiest places in the entirety of Austin, spanning many blocks, primarily on the streets of 6th and Guadelupe. Shops, restaurants, and the like fill every building, and due to its close proximity to UT, they are more inclined to be the eclectic sort, or failing that, the sort that sell groceries and other sundries. In fact, UT's own student co-op can be found on the Drag. There's really no telling what they'll be selling in other cases -- the stores and restaurants offer most everything the average mind can imagine, and quite a few things it may've been a little slow to. Shady oak trees typically line the streets, and it's not uncommon for people to spend a day hanging out here, walking the length of the Drag to browse its many establishments. Bronwen is back on the Drag and apparently on the hunt for clues from last week's little fiasco. From her scowling expression, one might be able to surmise that the detective is not having much luck in regards to hard, physical evidence. No one ever said life would be easy, and for it's far harder than anyone can ever imagine. Imagine being someone who lost everything not just what you were, your job, your life -- but everything -- /who/ you were. That's what we have here today, a woman, Sandra, who is walking up the street, barely anything left to who she once was. And her movement up the street, the slow crawl of her feet on the ground as she pushes the cart, show that today she's feeling a bit of desperation. Ellen seems innocent of the misery and drama around her... for now. She's just been shopping at the Student Co-Op, and has stayed to chat and browse. Now, she wanders down the street, a cup of coffee in hand, taking in the sights. Pan -is- innocent of whatever the heck was going on here last week, and ignorant too. Judging by the dissaray of her clothing, it seems she has decided to go dumpster diving again. She glances to Sandra, of course, and then gets a wonderful, glorious idea! She spots one of the more yummy dumpsters, and dashes over to it, propping it open as she digs hastily through the content. Logan is following the same beat as the detective, dressed surprisingly casual in comparison to his usually flashy business attire. Still, it is all very trendy, a name brand hoody with a jean jacket overtop, designer jeans a shade lighter, and runners too excessive for any jogging. Bronwen may recognize Logan; he was one of the witnesses that abruptly left the scene. Remy sits in one of the sidewalk cafes, reading a book while sipping at a cup of coffee. He hasn't been conscious of the recent strange occurances but for the strange woman recently. Casually listening to the bustle and flow of the life in the area, the librarian turns the page. The detective mutters something along the lines of "Stones and staves," under her breath as she gives the unhelpful asphalt and concrete one last scowl before heading towards a nearby bench to flip through her notes. Apparently, Logan has nothing to hide as he walks right up to Bronwen and the bench, his hands in his pockets. "What do you have?" he inquires, obviously referring to the detective's investigation. Yet, he doesn't as a reporter, as some of Austin's finest know him to be. In, Logan almost sounds like a force veteran walking on to a fresh crime scene. Inarin, of course, steps into the cafe quietly, ordering a 'coffee' with no sugar or milk in it. Masochist. He has a newspaper in his hands for reading material. Ellen quirks an eyebrow as she spots Sandra again. Her visage softens as she notes the battered old woman's expression. She walks up to the woman quietly, giving a gentle, friendly smile. "Hi, Sandra," she says softly, hoping not to startle her. Pan steps out of the little side-alley she slinked into, carrying a dirty, grimy box with flies swirling around it. It appears to be filled with donut holes. Yum yum! Well, not really filled. More like half-filled, and stale, but still yummy if you can mind it. "Hey Ellen!" She says cheerfully, "You hungry? There's plenty for both of ya!" A look of distrust forms across Sandra's face as she looks across toward Ellen then toward Pan carrying the box. The look shifts from distrust to disgust, shaking her head as she mutters something about 'assumptions by people about the homeless'. She pushes on her cart slowly past Ellen, moving about the speed of an old lady who needs to use a walker to get even three feet. There's a struggle in her eyes as she looks up, as if she's having trouble just even walking. Bronwen raises one eyebrow slightly at the question from the vaguely familiar face. "Technically it's classified information," she replies to the walking fashion model, recognizing him for who he is. "But if you really must know, they're statements from witnesses from last week. Yours is included in here as well, somewhere." Pan shrugs her shoulders and says, "It's really good actually, you know, you shouldn't get all fussy when you don't know what's going on," and with that she stuffs one of the donut holes in her mouth, looking suddenly a little bothered. Why? Because her wonderful amazing idea was shunned! Remy looks up from his book at the sound of a squeaky cart, a pleasant smile on his face as he notes the presence of someone new. Nodding to Inarin in a short greeting, he glances towards the sound, and arches an eyebrow at the strange bag lady, being accosted by Pan and Ellen. Draining his coffee, he slips an ornate bookmark into his reading material and keeps a watch on the occurance unfolding before him... Logan offers a mild grumble in return, put off by the roadblock of "Classified Information". Well, what did he expect...not just any nosey reporter can weasel information out of Austin detectives. But perhaps, there is more to Logan than meets the eye. "Understandable," he then adds with a nod, a proud, almost playful note enters his voice, "You actually didn't get a chance to question me..." Ellen's gaze shifts from Sandra to Pan. Her eyebrow /really/ rises now, and she wrinkles her nose faintly at the reclaimed food. "No thank you, Pan," she says with a polite shake of her head, "and I don't think you should be eating garbage either," she remonstrates. Where is Miss Lucia? "I can buy you some fresh donuts, if you like," Ellen offers, her friendly smile taking in Sandra as well. Rin glances up as well, and looks over the woman, "A commotion, huh. Well.", is his only commentary, and seems half-directed to Remy even then. He opens up his newspaper, and looks at it. Sandra looks back, only having gotten about three feet from the two of them in all the effort of walking. "Don't take handouts from strangers..." she says with a quiet voice as she pulls her hooded jacket's hood up over her head. Looking up at the sky, Sandra mutters something... a few clouds begin to form. Pan sighs, "Lucia says the same thing. Blah blah blah don't take candy either. I know what pills look like, sheesh.", she pops another hole in her mouth, and swallows, "Someone's gotta eat these, better me than the bugs, right?" She looks to Ellen, "Lucia ain't here...", she glances again to Sandra, noticing she hasn't gotten anywhere, "I'd offer to help her get to where she's gotta be, but she'd probably hit me with her shopping cart." Ellen just nods quietly to Sandra's words. She has her pride... Ellen can understand that. Her gaze goes back to Pan. "If there are flies hovering around, there might be maggots in those," she points out. "You'd better be careful. At least break them open before you bite into them." "You mean the officers I sent around didn't successfully track you down and question you within an inch of your life?" Bronwen replies with the faintest hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Seems like I'll have to retrain them on the fine art of hunting witnesses. Was there anything that comes to mind, important or not, in relation to that evening on the Drag?" The trio of women of varying ages momentarily holds her attention before her gaze shifts back to Logan. Remy continues to watch the scene with Sandra, rubbing his chin casually in thought. The darkening sunlight draws his attention as well, and whether from habit or prediction, picks the book up and slides it into the protection of his coat. "It appears so. And it seems like she wants to be left alone." The squeek of the wheels on Sandra's shopping cart wobbles in pitch as the wheel itself seems to be loose. She stops and struggles to lean down to reach the wheel for a moment then leans over and mutters something before climbing her way back up. "I'll respect her wishes, though by the looks of it, she'll be dealing with the results of her desires shortly. As will those that choose to ignore it," Rin says, turning the page on the paper, ignoring the coffee for now. Pan snickers at Ellen, "You think so? Well, I'll do that much for ya. Don't want bug-things digging in my stomach, and popping out into a giant alien monstrosity." She hesitates, "Actually, that'd be kinda cool." She looks over to Sandra, "Painful, but hey, it'd be an experience, hehehe...." At the thought of a pack of rookie police officer out tracking him somewhere, Logan smiles, "I won't be found if I don't want to be." He makes a quick addition, his sarcasm conceding somewhat, "I've been busy. I apologize, I've had my own...investigations to follow up on." Then the detective makes her inquiry. "No," Logan answers, his voice trailing away as he begins to look over the...crime scene? Can it be called that? "It was the strangest thing, though. The girl just...disappeared." Ellen chuckles and shakes her head at Pan -- but watches to make sure she's more careful with her junky donuts. She steps back as the old woman moves by, letting her have her space. Her gaze is a bit sad, but respectful. She flicks a glance at Inarin as he speaks. Bronwen nods and adds that to a similar section in her notes. "So a number of witnesses have also remarked. Your name and occupation, if any, please?" Once she's back up to her feet, she begins to push the cart forward again, it wobbles on the uneven sidewalk but is otherwise now missing the squeek. Sandra didn't actually touch the wheel, just looked at it. Now, she continues on her trek across the city, pausing only for a moment to look up at the clouds with a small smile for the first time in a few days. Interrupted from his own observation, Logan looks to the detective. His lips contort in contemplation, as if the man is carefully weighing his response. But shouldn't the answer be pretty cut and dry? "Logan Davis," Logan eventually admits, something lightening his words..."Reporter." Is it amusement? If someone wants to be left alone, and is being snarky to people who come near, then Pan is most definately not going to bug the person for just those reasons. She feels the urge to pick Sandra up and toss her into her own cart and give her a ride, though. Really. Pan does follow through on her promise, though, and breaks the donuts up a bit before chowing down. She offers ellen a piece again. "Perhaps. Perhaps not." The librarian rummages in his wallet, and sets down some money for his coffee, and placing another bill in his coat. Those good in math would note that it covers the amount, plus an exact twenty percent tip. The man then takes his leave, tipping his hat to the nearby Inarin. "Have a good day." A few steps later, Remy turns and walks down the street past Sandra, giving a short wave to Ellen and Pan before heading past her for a few steps... And then looking back to the woman with a curious gaze. "Pardon me, ma'am. Do you know this area well?" Quietly, he hopes that this curious bag lady will look at him... Roll by Remy: (1) (1) (1) If the reporter was looking for a dazzling smile of fanship recognition, he wouldn't be seeing it from this cop. "Thank you, Mister Davis. If you'll pardon me for a moment, I have something that needs my attention," Bronwen replies with a polite nod as she sticks her notepad into a jacket pocket. Sandra's head turns slightly, for a moment she ignores Remy, seemingly oblivious to his existance. Muttering some more, she looks up again and smiles a bit. When she looks back down at Remy though, the smile is gone. Meeting his gaze, she gives a struggled shrug, "Yes, I suppose I do, dear." Rin gives a careful look over to the librarian, watching him leave, but he doesn't follow. He merely waits until the librarian begins his conversation before glancing briefly to Ellen, smiling at her briefly, before looking back to Remy, and losing his smile. Roll by Inarin: (6) (2) (4) Ellen shakes her head to Pan again, taking a sip of her coffee. She smiles and waves to Remy as he walks by, "Good evening, Remy," then watches, a glint of curiosity in her own eyes, as the librarian addresses the shopping cart lady. To Rin, she just nods. "You're excused," Logan smiles, giving a curt nod of his head. After the detective is gone, he kneels down, scanning the sidewalk for anything that might make last weeks events a little more clear. Remy, at some point, will probably look back on today and rub his head, sighing. This might be because for some reason, Remy arches backwards as if he just got a nice, hard uppercut to the jaw, his feet flying up into the air as he slams to the ground roughly onto his back. Even so, his eyes are wide and his breath shallow and wheezing in shock. "Wh... R..." Obviously, the librarian is in no condition to continue the conversation at the moment. Alvira heads along the street towards the UoT co-op after work, whistling a little. There's no tug along the lines recently established here, and it's just a night out to get groceries. But it never stays simple, as the Symphony chimes in protest up ahead. Sighing and blowing a strand of hair back, Ally breaks into a slow jog, speeding up a little as there's a 'thump' up ahead... Pan opens her mouth to respond, but then Remy goes FLYYYYIIINGG and Pan drops the box of donuts CRASH, there goes dinner! She dashes on over to Remy and says, "Remy, Remy! Are you okay?!" She's in sudden-panic mood. She gives Remy a quick look over before she tries to place her hand on his head to see if he has a FEVER or something. Even though she's pretty darn sure that isn't it. Inarin turns the page on his newspaper, suavely. Bronwen turns towards Sandra and her squeaky accompanying cart to head towards her. The detective's pace picks up after watching a gentleman hit the pavement... and apparently without any aid at all from the homeless woman. "Are you all right, sir?" The question is directed towards Remy although Bronwen's gaze is visually examining Sandra, seeing as how Pan is currently doing the protective thing. Oreniel is heading along towards Foo.Bar after closing up shop after a long day, trying to follow up on a few acquaintences whose only real whereabouts are in mutual meetings amid the caffinated steam. He stretches, letting a joint pop... and, frowning slightly, makes towards the cluster of people, curious. Ellen blinks. Uh oh. More weirdness. "Remy?" she adds her voice of concern to the others, walking over towards him, Pan, and the gathering onlookers. Oreniel walks past the homeless woman. Vaguely familiar with her so-called Kool Aid from the other day, and he gives a friendly nod before passing by, and shaking his head sadly. He walks up to the group, eyeing Remy oddly for a moment. From his position carefully examining the concrete, Logan picks up a flash of movement in his peripheral vision. This is enough for the young reporter to immediately tune into the unfolding drama. Still, something tips off Logan that this may not be your typical exchange with the homeless. He creeps closer, a hand kept close to his side... Seeing Oreniel approaching, Ellen informs him worriedly, "Orion, Remy was talking to the old woman and he suddenly went flying through the air. Just like Ally did last week." She looks back at Remy to see if he will recover, or if medical assistance is required. Remy gasps, raising a slightly twitching hand as he works to pull himself up. The man is a little sweaty, but that's about it. "I'll... be fine... thank you." He gasps, looking around for the enigmatic bag lady... Who appears to have vanished somewhere. Having determined this quickly enough, he shakes his head, working to regain his breath, which becomes more even and regular. Previous: Logs or 2005 Archive |
