When:  27 February 2005
Who:  Alvira, Yves (NPCed)
What:  Yves, in his own special way, helps start Alvira's healing process.

Hippie Hollow

Now technically restricted to those age eighteen and older, the grove-steeped park sits near the edge of Lake Travis. Given the name Hippie Hollow, as it became markedly popular with that persecuted group during the late sixties, and later on in the seventies, took on a greater importance. To this day, its rock outcropping strewn beaches remains a bastion of nonconformity in an increasingly conservative state. Skinny-dipping is just as rampant as it was half a century ago, and it draws a lot of attention from the students getting their first taste of mind expansion at the university campus that lies about twenty minutes to the east. The most recent groups to take advantage of the welcoming, airy nature preserve use the land twice a year to host gay pride events, raising the brows of those that live and work inside town.

Alvira is not skinny-dipping, indeed, definitely on business, raking new cedar mulch on a few of the beds in preparation for spring plantings. Fortunately, it's not too busy today, or the fact the load's she's hauling are too large for her frame might draw notice.

Not that far off in the distance of the beach walks an older gentleman whom is lazily taking in the beauty of the lake. He knows that Alvira is around, but is in no rush to get there just yet, as he stops and takes a drag of his cigarette while he takes in the view over the lake.

Alvira huffs, rubbing her arms as if chilled, before picking up the wheelbarrow and moving to the next bed, and continuing. There's a focus there that isn't usually seen in such a mundane situation.

The man turns and heads back toward the direction of Alvira. Finishing his cigarette, he makes it vanish, afterall it won't do to add to anyones work. Sliding his hands into his pocket, he's now within about twenty feet of Alvira.

Alvira looks up from her duties at the approach and makes a somewhat lame attempt to brush off clinging bits of bark from her clothing. "I'm sorry, sir," she says kindly, looking over the man. A tad older than the Hollow's usual clientele, in her judgement. "Are you lost?"

A smile crosses the older man's lips, "The question is are you the one who is lost amongst your heart and mind." The question is more rhetorical, as if the man already knows the answer as he looks over Alvira for a moment, "You are in pain from what you perceive as a failure."

Anger flutters across Ally's face momentarily. "I don't know, exactly, why I rushed here so quickly I probably sprained my Role, but I've discussed it with the Seneschal." She leans on the shovel, wearily, and studies him again "I'm sorry, I thought you might be with Judgement, and I don't have any answers there - but it'd be wrong not to repay a kindness - yes, I'm hurting. Bad enough to simply leave that most precious thing in the hands of a madman, worst to wait and simply hold its location, not trying to do something- absolutely worst of all, when it counted most, I wasn't where I should have been. And from what I heard, the pain didn't even matter in the end." She sighs, shaking her head, "What a waste."

The man steps closer to Alvira, raising a hand and setting it on her shoulder. The smile fades slightly at the mention of the end of recent events, but it remains still there in some form as he continues, "You can not be held responsible for the choices of others. Having talked with your superior, we've both agreed you did what you could. You knowingly endured hardship to try and help someone, even if it didn't pan out. For that, you should feel no pain." And just like that, the pain and dissonance are gone.

Alvira's head snaps back as a jolt goes through her, the Symphony once again audible in its full glory to her. She bows her head, "I'm sorry I-I thought you were a Power here to give counselling, not-" She finishes, quieter, "Thank you."

Yves smiles a bit wider. "You've done well these past few days, working to realign yourself. The burden is gone now from you." He motions for you to walk with him toward the gate, "Your mission in Austin shall take you upon many different paths, do not hesitate to do what you must as you've already done."

Alvira starts to call after for clarification, but feels something settle into herself before she can open her mouth. Instead, she bows again towards the figure, and calls out "Thank you, sir!"

Yves looks back and smiles before he just vanishes into the wind as if a fading ghost.

Alvira gives another bow and smiles... the day feeling much brighter than it did a few moments before hand. "Thank you," she says again to the empty air, "I'll prove worthy."
